1 dead after head-on crash on Western Avenue, Knoxville police investigating

1 dead after head-on crash on Western Avenue, Knoxville police investigating

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Knoxville Police Department said it is investigating a deadly crash that happened Friday evening.

KPD said the crash happened just after 6 p.m. on Western Avenue near Sullivan Road.

Investigators determined that a car crossed the center turn lane into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into another car, KPD said.

The driver of the car that crossed into oncoming traffic was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and later died, according to KPD. They have not been identified.

KPD added the driver and a passenger in the other car involved in the crash were treated for injuries believed to not be life threatening at UTMC.

The investigation into the crash remains active and ongoing.
