Arsenal submit €10m bid for Girona right-back Arnau Martinez

Arsenal FC have submitted a €10m bid to sign Girona FC right-back Arnau Martinez (22), according to a report from Foot Mercato. The Gunners’ bid is reportedly composed of a €8m transfer fee with a further €2m in performance-related add-ons. The 22-year-old Girona FC youth graduate featured 39 times for the City Football Group-owned Catalunya side last season. He logged three goals and as many assists.

The Gunners need defensive cover in the right-back position after parting ways with Takehiro Tomiyasu. Martinez’s versatility could also be of use for Mikel Arteta. The former Spain youth international can also fill in as a centre-back. His Girona contract expires in two years. Should Arsenal get their man, Martinez would be the Gunners’ eighth signing of the summer.

NASA’s New SPHEREx Mission Observes Interstellar Comet

0

NASA’s SPHEREx (Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization and Ices Explorer) observed interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS Aug. 7 to Aug. 15. The SPHEREx team has been analyzing insights from this data, and a research note is available online. The agency’s SPHEREx is one of NASA’s space telescopes observing this comet, together providing more information about its size, physical properties, and chemical makeup. For example, NASA’s Webb and Hubble space telescopes also recently observed the comet. While the comet poses no threat to Earth, NASA’s space telescopes help support the agency’s ongoing mission to find, track, and better understand solar system objects.

Frances Tiafoe’s historic upset vs. Rafael Nadal needs a deep rewind

0

It’s September 5th, 2022.

We’re watching an American (Frances Tiafoe) take on a legend (Rafael Nadal) in US Open play.

The crowd’s been kinda shifting back and forth all night because it’s been a long time since an American beat anyone — let alone a legend — this late in Open play. Before we watch Tiafoe try to win match point, we should learn about his origin story, about Rafa’s recent history, and about what this match could mean in the context of modern American tennis.

Kenyon Green waived: Eagles cut guard acquired from C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade

Kenyon Green waived

NFL roster cuts are slowly trickling in ahead of Tuesday’s 4:00 PM deadline.

At the time of the deal, there was a thought that Green could compete with Tyler Steen to start at right guard. That never even came close to happening, however.

Green only ever repped at left guard … and only with the second-team or third-team units. Not only did Green not perform well, but he also missed two different stints due to injury dating back to when training camp began.

Green missed a good chunk of training camp and didn’t play particularly well but I don’t think the Eagles are ready to give up on his potential.

As it turns out, the Eagles were ready to give up on the 24-year-old’s potential. At least when it comes to using a roster spot on Green. It’s possible they could bring him back on the practice squad, assuming he clears waivers.

The Eagles did not come out totally empty-handed from the CJGJ trade. They did acquire a Day 3 draft pick swap that they recently sent back to the Houston Texans (packaged along with tight end Harrison Bryant) to trade for John Metchie III.
